Advancing translations in Vanuatu

By Max Sahl  |  Wycliffe Today Winter 2024 Edition

Did you know that the Pacific region is home to almost one quarter of the total living languages in the world? It is recognised as the most linguistically diverse region on the planet. Papua New Guinea is home to over 800 indigenous languages spread across its mainland and almost 600 islands, and Vanuatu has roughly 110 living languages across 83 islands.

The stories in this edition of Wycliffe Today focus on the new translation projects about to begin in Vanuatu. Be encouraged as you read about Jared and Bethany Killey, and Paul and Nicola Mangohig, new Wycliffe Australia members seconded to SIL Vanuatu, who are preparing to support translation projects on the island of Espiritu Santo.

There are also stories of ni-Vanuatu leaders receiving quality training in critical thinking, Bible knowledge and exegesis. These trainees are now becoming the trainers. A new generation of leaders is being trained to take part in the Bible translation movement in Vanuatu. Praise God for the progress taking place in Vanuatu!

Thanks for your patience...

Waiting is hard, isn't it. But imagine waiting 2000 years for Scripture in your language! Thanks for your patience. And thanks for your generous support which will help bring the long wait to an end...
