On the extended weekend of 10-13 August, 2023, Wycliffe Australia will be hosting two concurrent workshops in Maleny, Queensland: Contextualisation and Story the Bible (see below for details).
Dates and Times: The workshops start with the evening meal on Thursday 10 August and finish mid-afternoon on Sunday 13. Note that, since each part of the program builds on the preceding parts, full-time attendance is mandatory.
Venue: These are live-in workshops, held at Grice’s Macadamia Farm, 209 Burgum Road, North Maleny. Maleny lies in the Blackall Range, about half an hour from the Sunshine Coast or 1½ hours north of Brisbane – click here for a MAP. Note that the accommodation is fairly basic, generally on double bunks in single-sex dormitories.
Workshop 1: Story The Bible: Biblical storytelling is taking off around the world as a way to share the Word of God.
Story the Bible is a three-day workshop in which you will learn how to:
craft Bible stories
- revise and polish stories to ensure they are simple to tell, accurate to Scripture and easy to remember
- tell your stories in a way that grips your audience
- teach them to others
- lead a study on the story that challenges the hearers to apply the truths of Scripture to their own lives.
Cost: $110 per person (includes food, accommodation, course materials and tuition). An earlybird discount of $20 is offered for registrations received before 10 July 2023.
A non-refundable deposit of $20 is required to secure your booking.

Workshop 2: Contextualisation: In August-September 2023, Wycliffe Australia is hosting a short term mission trip to Kenya, one element of which will be a contextualisation seminar to help Kenyan church leaders to apply the teachings of Scripture to their own cultures. This workshop is part of the preparation for that trip.
Contextualisation helps a culture be transformed by the Word of God. In this training you will learn how to help church leaders from another culture dig down into their own culture to identify the beliefs that influence how they see the world. Then you will research what the Bible says about each of the beliefs you have discovered. This can then help church leaders to create culturally appropriate, biblically-faithful and life-giving rituals to replace the traditional rituals of their culture.
The Contextualisation seminar is open to anyone, NOT just those who are joining us for the Kenya Safari Tour. You will be learning how to work cross-culturally, so this workshop would be applicable to any prospective missionary or someone already working with another culture.
Cost: $120 per person (includes food, accommodation, course materials and tuition).
A non-refundable deposit of $25 is required to secure your booking.
