While Wycliffe Australia celebrated our 70th in 2024, we also joined Bible translation organisations in rejoicing another significant milestone. For the first time in history, the number of language communities still needing a translation project to begin fell below 1000. In 2014, there were 1,859 languages identified that were needing translation projects to be started. That number has been almost halved in the space of a decade. Added to this is the number of languages with a translation of the entire Bible. In 2014 there were 531 languages completed. In 2024, that number rose to 756–an increase of 42% over just 10 years. What could be contributing to this rapid growth? For the projects with Wycliffe Australia involvement, this has been achieved in a large part due to collaborations with other organisations and local partners. Working together is at the heart of what we do and the stories you will read in this Impact Report reflect our ongoing commitment to prayer and fostering gospel-centred partnerships with churches, individuals and organisations to bring God’s Word to the language communities still waiting.
