Robyn serves with the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). She and her Swedish co-worker, Lisbeth Fritzell lived in the Duke of York Islands (PNG) for over 20 years, working together with the mother-tongue translation team to translate the New Testament into the Ramoaaina language. The New Testament was dedicated in 2007.

After that Robyn’s primary role has been as advisor to the translation teams from the Kandas and Label languages of Southern New Ireland (PNG). The Kandas New Testament was dedicated in 2019. At the end of 2023, the Label New Testament was sent to South Korea for printing. It is hoped that the dedication will be in the second half of 2024, possibly November.

Robyn also helps produce materials to encourage Scripture engagement in the Kandas and Label languages. The Jesus video has also been dubbed into both these languages. SIL Scripture engagement workers held a workshop on teaching the Bible to children in November 2023 for both the Kandas and Label groups.

A grammar paper of the Kandas language was finished in 2022 and one for the Label language is in progress.

Robyn and Lisbeth continue to work with the Ramoaaina team on Scripture engagement activities and materials production as time permits. The audio recording of the New Testament has proved to be very popular. The hymn book has been printed, but distribution is a great need. They plan to have the book of Genesis printed in 2024. All the preparation for it has been done.

Robyn and Lisbeth are now living at the SIL centre in Kavieng, the main town in New Ireland Province. It is a long way from the areas where the language groups they work with are living, which is a challenge, but it seems to be the best option for a place to live at this time. Robyn and Lisbeth manage the centre at times as do other language teams.
Robyn is currently on home assignment until mid-2024. When she returns to PNG she plans to concentrate on Scripture engagement with all three language groups, distribution of various Ramoaaina materials including the book of Genesis, and completing the Label grammar paper.
