Tanya grew up in a non-Christian home and became a Christian through the witness of family members and Girls' Brigade in Maryborough, QLD, at the age of 9 or 10. After training as a Primary School teacher in Townsville, QLD, Tanya worked in North East Arnhem Land for four and a half years, first teaching at a non-indigenous school before moving into indigenous education. It was during her time in North East Arnhem Land that Tanya came to understand the importance of being able to read and understand the Bible in the language one knows best.
After working with SIL PNG in Ukarumpa for two years (2015-2017), Tanya began working with SIL Australia in Kangaroo Ground, VIC, and is currently involved with supporting staff and students from a variety of cultural backgrounds in literacy training and administration. She hopes to return to an overseas allocation in the future, but, in the meantime, is enjoying working with the many cultures that engage with SIL Australia for literacy, technology and Bible translation support in local language communities.
