Project 8830
There are more than 70 languages being spoken in the Solomon Islands, in communities spread across seven major islands and 700 smaller ones. Only a small handful of these languages have a complete Bible of their own. Around 20 language groups have New Testaments available and a few other languages have Scripture translation projects underway. Yet sadly, many languages in the region do not have a single word of the Bible translated because there have not been the resources available to get projects started.
This new fund supports a local Wycliffe Global Alliance organisation: Bible Translation and Literacy Partnership Solomon Islands (BTLPSI). Wycliffe Australia is offering assistance to BTLPSI to provide resources for establishing new translation projects and for helping them grow in scope and effectiveness. Training will be made available for key personnel, including workshops focused on increasing the skills and experience of local translators and teaching them how to check drafts. Wycliffe personnel are also working on location with BTLPSI to assist where they can.
BTLPSI is committed to serving as a strong local force in Bible translation and literacy in the Solomons and Wycliffe Australia is happy to endorse and support that determination.
