Project 8535

Translation work began in Topura (a dialect of the Wedau language) in 2005. The Gospel of Mark was published in 2010 and just under 2500 verses of OT selections, plus Mark and Acts in 2016. Luke and Paul’s ‘5 T epistles & Philemon’ have been consultant checked.

At the time of the outbreak of COVID, five Epistles and half of Revelation were left to draft and a further six books in various stages of checking. Work has now resumed but the team has lost its two senior translators due to a death and an incapacitating injury. With some new recruits and reassignment of work the team gathered in October 2023 and drafted 1 James. In 2024 we will gather in June for drafting and training and possibly again later in the year to have a consultant check on John. The team’s other focus this year will be a small print run of the Topura Morning/Evening prayer and Eucharist service booklet. This was one of the last projects of our late senior translator and will be dedicated to his memory by his family.
