It seemed like a major spanner in the works when Bruce Cox and Kathy Cummins were no longer able to work in the Tivoid area of Cameroon. But God opened a door across the border, where the Iceve language community is now involved in a Luke Partnership and is drafting written Scripture for the first time! Bruce and Kathy plan to live and work in the neighbouring country for their next three year term. This was to be from 2020 – 2023 but COVID-19 restrictions have delayed their return to Africa by many months. The fundraising budget will assist them greatly with their work for at least 3 years whether it recommences late in 2020 or early 2021.
Bruce and Kathy will be working under a national team, assisting the seven languages in the Luke Partnership cluster to write down their languages, translate through Luke and develop initial literacy materials. They will also connect with people from the four Tivoid languages they were working with, including Iceve, who now live in refugee camps there. A further part of supporting West Africans in developing their languages will be teaching a cohort of Francophone Africans at Bachelor’s level back in Cameroon for ten weeks in 2021. Despite all this change and uncertainty, Bruce and Kathy are looking forward to this cross-border experience and influence on more languages with gratitude to God and a healthy dose of trepidation! Pray for them!
