The Chris Kilham story
By Sandra More
Chris Kilham’s story is remarkable. She did not let physical limitations, the isolation of the Australian Outback, or cultural barriers stop her from serving her Indigenous friends and the community of Aurukun with passion.
As a talented artist, Chris captured the Aboriginal people and the surroundings of the community in beautiful pastels, many of which are included in the book. Chris recalled:
The smiles of the dark-skinned children captivated me – they still do. The colours of the tropics; the blues, the greens, the reds, all more intense than the colours of home – it was magic!
Chris’s adventure in the Outback is marked by courage, faith, passion, academic achievement and great respect and love for her Indigenous colleagues as together they translated the Wik Mungkan New Testament.
