BIBLE TRANSLATION

Bruce (Taylor) & Ali are translation advisors working with the Gela people in the Solomon Islands. After 18 years of work, the Gela New Testament was dedicated to God and officially launched on May 1, 2016.

Since then Taylor has been working with the Gela translators on the Old Testament. It is exciting to report that the whole of the Old Testament has been drafted into Gela and now all the other checks, to ensure the quality of the finished Bible, are taking place. Each book must go through 7 stages of checking before it can be released for publication - Drafting, Advisor exegetical check, Translators' check, Village check, Back translation, Consultant checking, Final read through & Publication.
They are looking forward to the day when the Gela people will have the whole Bible in their language.

Latest Updates from Taylor (Bruce) & Alison Coombe

14 September 2022

When COVID-19 hit, the Solomon Islands and Australia closed their borders so BT was unable to travel to and from the Solomons. For much of this time, Gela translators were even unable to get into Honiara, so we couldn’t talk to them, even via Zoom. So this was the perfect time to:
a. Upgrade my qualifications by completing my Masters in Linguistics
b. Complete the consultant training
c. Study Hebrew.

Thanks for your patience...

Waiting is hard, isn't it. But imagine waiting 2000 years for Scripture in your language! Thanks for your patience. And thanks for your generous support which will help bring the long wait to an end...
