Linguist-translators – PEV (Plain English Version)
LONG TERM | AUSTRALIA
The Plain English Version is an English translation of the Bible specifically designed for speakers of Indigenous Australian languages. The translation is helpful for theological training and for translating the Bible into Indigenous Australian languages. Wycliffe Australia’s partner organisation, the Australian Society for Indigenous Languages (AuSIL), is in need of more translators to complete the whole Bible.
Responsibilities:
- drafting
- community checking
- coordinating consultant checks
- checking audio recordings
Training:
- theological degree at Bible college (must include exegesis and biblical languages)
- one year at SIL Australia
Orientation:
- orientation workshops, held at our National Centre in Kangaroo Ground, Victoria
- on-field cultural orientation
