Story the Bible – Maleny, Qld

Have you ever tried to share the Word of God with a friend and found they weren’t interested?
Sharing a Bible story

Try telling them a story.

Everyone loves a story, and Bible stories are a great tool for sharing the Word of God with people who may not visit a church or read it for themselves. Bible stories are also a great tool for discipleship, church growth and Christian mentoring.  But to be both faithful to God’s Word and effective for ministry, our stories need to be simple, accurate and memorable.

That’s where Story the Bible comes in.  In a three-day live-in workshop you will learn how to craft, polish, tell and teach simple, accurate, memorable Bible stories, and lead a discussion on a passage of Scripture – even with someone who has never read the Bible.

Wycliffe Australia in Queensland is holding a Story the Bible workshop at Maleny, in the scenic hinterland of the Sunshine Coast, from 5 to 8 September 2024.  During the three-day workshop you will discover how to take a Bible text and craft a Bible story that is clear, memorable and gripping, while still being accurate to the biblical text.  Experienced Bible storytellers will facilitate the course and provide individual mentoring.  The program also includes opportunities to put your new-found skills into practice.

Where: Grice’s Nut Farm, Burgum Road, North Maleny (detailed directions will be sent to registered participants).

Arrival:             Before 6.00 pm Thursday 5 September
Departure:      After 3.00 pm Sunday 8 September

Cost:                 $100 per person.

Hosts:               Francois and Ianthe van der Walt, francois_vanderwalt@wycliffe.org.au

Gospel Drama Training weekend

Drama is a powerful tool for presenting the gospel to those who have not yet heard the Good News. Here’s an opportunity for you to be involved! As one Brisbane church elder said, ‘Until I saw The John Drama, I did not know that the gospel could be presented in such a simple, accurate and engaging way.’ Two hundred and fifty people saw The John Drama at the Mount Tamborine Easter Convention in 2021. Six hundred people attended The Matthew Drama performance at the Mount Tamborine Easter Convention in 2023. The Mount Tamborine Easter Convention has invited Wycliffe Australia to perform The Luke Drama at the Easter Convention in 2025. Sign up here to be part of the Gospel Drama Training weekend where we will learn, rehearse and perform Sections #1-3 of The Luke Drama, in preparation for multiple performances in 2025. This will also be an opportunity for training new Gospel Drama directors, using The Luke Drama as their training platform.

Times:       5:00 pm Thursday 24 April to 2:00 pm Sunday 27 April
Venue:      Grice’s Nut Farm, 209 Burgum Road, North Maleny

Celebrate Bible Translation – Hervey Bay, Qld

Join us in Hervey Bay for a celebration of the progress of Bible translation around the world

There are still over 1.5 billion people in the world, speaking 6658 languages, who do not have a full Bible in the language they know best. The need for Scripture translation is too great for western missionaries to complete the task in this lifetime, so God has been working to equip Christian speakers of these languages to translate the Scriptures into their own mother tongues, and even to prepare some of them to be translation consultants. The focus of this evening will be on the progress in recent years in the training and equipping of local translators and consultants.

Venue:  Hervey Bay Baptist Church,

Bible Storying workshops at Mt Tamborine, 2022

Have you ever tried to share the Word of God with a friend and found they weren’t interested?
Sharing a Bible story

Try telling them a story.

Everyone loves a story!  But to be both faithful to God’s Word and effective for ministry, our stories need to be simple, accurate and memorable.

That’s where Storying the Bible comes in.  In a 3-day live-in workshop at Mt Tamborine in the Gold Coast hinterland you will learn how to craft, polish, tell and teach simple, accurate, memorable Bible stories, and lead a discussion on a passage of Scripture – even with someone who has never read the Bible.

These workshops are hosted by the Mt Tamborine Convention, with the training provided by Wycliffe Australia Story the Bible teams.  Choose between two alternative dates:

  • Thursday evening 2 June to Sunday afternoon 5 June 2022, OR
  • Thursday evening 9 June to Sunday afternoon 12 June 2022.

Both will be held at Camp Tamborine, 32 Keswick Road, Tamborine Mountain.

Beyond Basics, Mt Tamborine (SE Qld)

Epic Storytelling

Several times a year we conduct basic workshops in crafting, telling, teaching and studying God’s Word through the medium of story; but once every two years there is an extra opportunity to “go deeper” in the art of Biblical storytelling, looking at ideas and techniques that we don’t have time to cover in the introductory workshops.  These opportunities are Beyond Basics, a weekend get-away with other Storytellers to share ideas, hear new input, and craft – or just listen to – a few more stories.  This year Beyond Basics will be held at the beautiful and well-loved Mt Tamborine Conference Centre, on the last weekend of July.

Digging Deeper in Scripture’s Stories

The program will include sessions on a range of topics such as Getting the theology right, World view and Bible storytelling, Becoming a Sacred Storyteller, Bible Storytelling for Kids’ Ministry, Building Bridges to Storytelling Opportunities, Corporate storytelling, A Vision for Central Queensland and more.  There will also be free time to enjoy a bush walk to one of the many waterfalls on Mt Tamborine, or a leisurely coffee on Gallery Walk with its numerous tourist shops; and a special program of Epic Storytelling (see below) is planned for the Saturday evening.  If numbers warrant it we aim to provide special programs for primary and secondary school aged children – please let us know well in advance if you are interested in this option.

The $140 cost of the weekend includes all food from Friday dinner to Sunday lunch, plus morning and afternoon teas and suppers, as well as shared accommodation and the program elements and handouts.   Where else could you get a fully catered weekend away in such a beautiful location for $140?  But even so, if you would like to come but can’t afford it, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

Click on one of the Register buttons above and please fill in all the details requested, and pay either the deposit ($20 per person) or the full fee, to secure your place.  Full payment is due by Friday 20th July, but the earlybird discount closes on Tuesday 26th June.  For any enquiries please contact Peter O’Loghlin by email or by phone on (07) 3892 3348.

Thanks for your patience...

Waiting is hard, isn't it. But imagine waiting 2000 years for Scripture in your language! Thanks for your patience. And thanks for your generous support which will help bring the long wait to an end...
